"Eternal": What's wrong?

Nothing is eternal—except, you know, the eternal itself. Although the Eternals movie performed quite well in theaters during its premiere weekend, reaching a substantial US$71 million at the US theater box office and more than 160 million US dollars in the global box office, the film has already received negative reviews from critics and audiences, exceeding Any other work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its Rotten Tomatoes rating is currently 48%, the lowest rating ever obtained by MCU movies, breaking the record of 25 consecutive "fresh" movies by Marvel Pictures on the site. The audience gave it a CinemaScore score of B, which is also the company's new low.

Over time, some of the 150 or so critics who gave Eternals negative reviews are definitely likely to re-evaluate the movie. Maybe those who already like Eternals will applaud it so loudly that its reputation will start to grow. However, at this point, Eternals seems to be remembered as an ambitious failure.

It's worth asking how this happened. Marvel's first 25 works in the past 13 years have achieved great success and are also very popular with audiences. Few studios in history have such a consistent quality record. Even Marvel's not-so-great movies are still very interesting, exciting, and perform well.

Not this time, at least according to 52% of critics and a large percentage of the paying public. So what went wrong? The following list points out five major issues. In hindsight, these issues indicate that "The Eternal Family" will not eventually become one of the most beloved works in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
