Lawrence police charged with possession of child sexual abuse material

A police officer in Lawrence Township has been suspended by the department after he was arrested for possessing child sexual abuse materials.

The Attorney General’s Office announced on Thursday that Officer Shane Hickey was arrested on suspicion of a crime on November 10. The office said that after providing clues to the New Jersey Police’s Cybercrime Children’s Department, an investigation revealed that Hickey had sent himself 45 child sexual abuse documents via email.

Hickey appeared in court awaiting trial. Possession of child sexual abuse materials at Level 3 can be punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.

The 29-year-old Xijiu was sworn in in 2016.
