Police in Atlantic City said a man in Cape Summers was seriously injured after setting himself on fire at a gas station on Saturday morning.

Officials from the Atlantic City Police Department said their officers reported a man on fire to the Gulf gas station in the 2000 block of Atlantic Avenue just after midnight.

The arriving police officer found a 24-year-old man in Somers Point, New Jersey, with severe burns. An attendant at the gas station put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The man was taken to the Atlantifcare Regional Medical Center in the city branch, where his injuries were serious and life-threatening.

An investigation revealed that the man poured himself rubbing alcohol before using a lighter to ignite himself. According to reports, he then entered a convenience store at a gas station and caused many small fires. They said he left the store and the fire was extinguished.
